Q1)
Mr Kumar drives to work at an average speed of 48 km per hour. The time taken to cover the first 60% of the distance is 10 minutes more than the time taken to cover the remaining distance. How far is his office?
(a) 30 km (b) 40 km (c) 45 km (d) 48 km
Solution:
Let the distance be x.
First 60% distance is covered in 10 more minutes more time than that of the rest 40% distance
=> 0.6*x distance is covered in 10 more minutes more than that of the rest 0.4*x distance
=> 0.2*x is covered in 10 minutes ie., 1/6 hr
=> average speed = distance/time = 0.2*x/(1/6) = 48
=> x = 48/6*0.2 =40 km
Answer-(b)

Q2)
Gita is prettier than Sita but not as pretty as Rita. Then,
(a) Sita is not as pretty as Gita
(b) Sita is prettier than Rita
(c) Rita is not as pretty as Gita
(d) Gita is prettier than Rita
Solution:
If we right the relationship in terms of inequality symbols,
G > S and G < R
=> R > G > S
Option (a) => S < G => correct
Option (b) => S < R => wrong
Option (c) => R < G => wrong
Option (d) => G > R => wrong
Answer-(a)

Q3)
Given that,
1.A is brother of B
2.C is father of A
3.D is brother of E
4.E is daughter of B
Then the uncle of D is
(a) A (b) B (c) C (d) E
Solution:
From (1) and (2), C is father of A and B
From (3) and (4), B is parent of D and E
So, the generation-tree is as follows:
First Generation – C
Second Generation – A and B
Third Generation – D and E

From the figure, we can conclude that Uncle of D and E is A
Answer-(a)

Q4)
Examine the following statements:
1.Rama scored more than Rani
2. Rani scored less than Ratna
3. Ratna scored more than Rama
4.Padma scored more than Rama but less than Ratna
Who scored the highest?
(a) Rama (b) Padma (c) Rani (d) Ratna
Solution:
If we right the relationship in terms of inequality symbols,
Statement (1) => Rama > Rani
Statement (2) => Rani < Ratna
Statement (3) => Ratna > Rama
Statement (4) => Ratna > Padma >Rama
Now, we can say that, Ratna Padma > Rama > Rani
“ Ratna  scored highest”
Answer-(d)

Q5)
Consider the following information regarding the performance of 1000 students in 4 different tets:

Tests
I
II
III
IV
Average marks
60
60
70
80
Range of marks
30 to 90
45 to 75
20 to 100
0 to 100

If a student scores 74 marks in each of the four tests, in which one of the following tests is her performance the best comparatively?
(a) Test I (b) Test II (c) Test III (d) Test IV
Solution:
Her score is above the average score in Tests I,II and III. Out of these three tests, her score is very near to the maximum score in Test II. So, in Test-II, her performance is best comparatively.
Answer-(b)

Q6)
Six squares are coloured front and back, red(R), blue(B), yellow(Y), green(G), white(W) and orange(O) and are hinged together as shown in the figure given below. If they are folded to form a cube, what would be the face opposite to white face?

R
B
G
Y
O
W

(a)R     (b)G     (c)B      (d)O
Solution:
A cube has 6 faces.
Let us consider the face ‘G’ as the face facing us. Fold Y and B such that, B becomes the top-face, O becomes the face opposite to G, W becomes the bottom face and R and Y becomes oppositely-faced pair and adjacent.
In this arrangement, W becomes the bottom face and B becomes the top one. So the face opposite to W is B.
All the three oppositely-faced pairs are:
W-B
G-O
R-Y
Answer-(c)

Q7)
Three views of a cube following a particular motion are given below:
What is the letter opposite to A?

(a)H     (b)P     (c)B      (d)M
Solution:
A cube has 6 faces and the faces from the three views of the cube are:
A,B,H,K,M,P
For any face, four faces are adjacent and the non-touching face is it’s opposite face.
From the first view, two adjacent faces of K are: A and B
From the second view, two adjacent faces of K are: H and M
So, all the four adjacent faces of K are: A,B,H and M => face opposite to K is P
Like wise, from first and third views, the adjacent faces of B are: A,K,H and P
=> The opposite face of B is M
So, by now, we have got two of the three oppositely-faced pairs: K-P and B-M
The remaining oppositely-faced pair is A-H
Answer-(a)

Q8)
Two glasses of equal volume are respectively half and three fourths filled with milk. They are then filled to the brim by adding water. Their contents are then poured into another vessel. What will be the ratio of milk to water in this vessel?
(a)1:3 (b)2:3 (c)3:2 (d)5:3
Solution:
“Two glasses of equal volume” => let that volume be X
Respective milk content = 0.5X and 0.75X
Respective water content added = 0.5X and 0.25X
After pouring into another vessel, total milk content = 0.5X+0.75X =1.25 X
After pouring into another vessel, total water content = 0.5X+0.25X = 0.75X
Ratio of milk to water = 1.25:0.75 = 125:75 = 5:3
Answer-(d)

Q9)
Examine the following statements:
1.None but the rich can afford air travel
2.Some of those who travel by air become sick
3.Some of those who become sick require treatment
Which one of the following conclusions can be drawn from the above statements?
(a)all the rich persons travel by air
(b)those who travel by air become sick
(c)All the rich persons become sick
(d)all those who travel by air are rich
Solution:
From the first statement, it can be concluded that “only rich can afford air travel”, which can also be expressed as “all those who travel by air are rich”. Option(a) is wrong but option(d) is right.
From the first statement, we can say that only some of those who travel by air become sick, but not all. So option(b) can be eliminated.
Some of the rich travel by air and out of them some may become sick. But not all the rich become sick. So option(c) can be eliminated.
Answer-(d)

Q10)
Consider the following statements:
1.All machines consume energy
2.Electricity provides energy
3.Electrically operated machines are cheap to maintain
4.Electrically operated machines do not cause pollution
Which one of the following inferences can be drawn from the above statements?
(a)all machines are are run by electric energy
(b)there is no form of energy other than electricity
(c)most machines are operated on electric energy
(d)electrically operated machines are preferable to use
Solution:
We should be careful with the words ‘all’, ‘none’ etc.,
Option(a) is extreme. It’s not mentioned any where in the question stem that all machines are run by electricity. So option(a) is out.
Option(b) is also extreme in the sense that there is no energy form other than electricity. It’s also out.
Option(c): we can’t infer on the count or extent of machines operated on electric energy. The given statements emphasize on the advantages of electric energy and no clue on the number of machines operated on that form of energy. It’s also out.
Option(d) => Given the advantages of the  electric energy, we can infer that those machines which use electric energy are preferable.
Answer-(d)

Consider the following statements:
1.All X-brand cars parked here are white
2.Some of them have radial tyres
3.All X-brand cars manufactured after 1986 have radial tyres
4.All cars are not X-brand
which one of the following conclusions can be drawn from the above statements?
(a)Only white cars are parked here
(b)Some white X-brand cars with radial tyres are parked here
(c)Cars other than X-brand cannot have radial tyres
(d)Most of the X-brand cars are manufactured before 1986
Solution:
Option(a): It’s given that all X-brand cars parked are of white colour. There may be some other branded cars which are not white. So this option is out
Option(b): All the X-brand cars parked are of white colour and some of which have radial tyres. So the conclusion that “some white X-brand cars with radial tyres are parked here” is correct.
Option(c): In the given statements, it’s mentioned about X-brand cars having radial tyres. But nothing is mentioned about the other brands and hence we can’t conclude anything about that. This option is out
Option(d): In the given statements, it’s mentioned the cars manufactured after 1986 have radial tyres. But nothing is mentioned about the quantity of them and hence we can’t conclude whether there are most number of such cars or not. This option is out
Answer-(b)

Q17)
Read the passage given below and the two statements that follow (given on the basis of the passage):
Four men are waiting at Delhi air port for Mumbai flight. Two are doctors and the other two are business men. Two speak Gujarati and two speak Tamil. No two of the same profession speak the same language. Two are Muslims and two are Christians. No two of the same religion are of the same profession, nor do they speak the same language. The Tamil speaking Doctor is a Christian.
1.The Christian businessman speaks Gujarati.
2.The Gujarati-speaking doctor is a Muslim.
Which of the above statements is/are correct conclusion/conclusions?
(a)1 only (b)2 only (c) Both 1 and 2 (d) Neither 1 nor 2
Solution:
The two conditions to note are:
“No two of the same profession speak the same language” and
“No two of the same religion are of the same profession, nor do they speak the same language”
Let us go in a step-by-step process by using tabular forms:
We have two doctors and two business men. Two speak Tamil and two speak Guj. It’s given that “The Tamil speaking Doctor is a Christian”. Let us put this info in a tabular form:
1
Tamil
Doctor
Christian
2
Tamil

3
Gujarati

4
Gujarati

As one Tamil speaker is a doctor, the other Tamil speaker must be Businessman. And also as the Tamil speaking doctor is a Christian, Tamil-speaking businessman must be Muslim:
1
Tamil
Doctor
Christian
2
Tamil
Businessman
Muslim
3
Gujarati
Doctor

4
Gujarati
Businessman

As the Tamil-doctor is Christian, Gujarati-Doctor must be Muslim. So the remaining Guj-Businessman must be Christian:
1
Tamil
Doctor
Christian
2
Tamil
Businessman
Muslim
3
Gujarati
Doctor
Muslim
4
Gujarati
Businessman
Christian
So, here we have:
Christian Doctor speaking Tamil
Muslim Businessman speaking Tamil
Muslim Doctor speaking Guj
Christian Businessman speaking Guj
The last two are nothing but the given statements (2) and (1) in that order.
Answer: Option(c)

Q18)
Ten new TV shows started in January- 5 sitcoms, 3 dramas, 2 news magazines. By April only seven of the new shoes were still on, five of them being sitcoms. Based on the above information, four conclusions as given below, have been made. Which one of these logically follows from the information given above?
(a)Only one news magazine show is still on
(b)Only one of the drama shows is still on
(c)At least one discontinued show was a drama
(d)Viewers prefer sitcoms over drama
Solution:
Out of 10, only 7 are being continued and in that 7, five are sitcoms. The remaining two are arranged in the following categories:
Category-I: 1-drama + 1-news magazine
Category-II: 2-dramas
Category-III: 2-news magazines
Option(a): Not possible in all cases. This option fails in categories II and III
Option(b): Not possible in all cases. This option fails in categories II and III
Option(c): This is possible. In category-I, 1 drama-show is getting continued rest two being discontinued. In category-II, 2 drama-shows are getting continued rest one being discontinued. In category-III, all the three dram-shows are being discontinued.
So in any case, at least one drama-show is being discontinued.
Answer: Option(c)

    1. Thanks for the complements. If you see the CSAT paper-I, both GK and CA topics are covered. This blog is primarily intended for math and logic related topics, which are quite useful for CSAT prep. However, for GK and Current affairs related topics, CSAT specific forums/sites may also be checked.

  2. Dear Mr. ravi Shankar garu,
    Thanks for this material.
But I was little doubtful abou the answer for question 4.
Would u plz recheck the answer.
In the question its clearly given that "Padma scored more than Rama but less than Ratna" then how can Padma be the highest scorer? It should be Ratna. Plz correct if I'm wrong.
